Previous Cases

Here are some previous cases of how we have helped people just like you.

These are real cases. Names and other unique data points are altered to protect the true identity of the people referenced. We obtained special permission from each person before publication.

“The Smiths” are rockstars where they work. They made some smart moves early on financially but were reluctant to “let go” and enjoy life a bit. They wanted to move closer to nature and start living on their terms ASAP.

Three ways we helped “The Smiths”:

1) We showed them (using their estimates) when they would make enough money from their own businesses to quit their corporate jobs. They now know what earnings number they need to hit before turning in their resignation letters.

2) We showed them they could take vacations and live life while planning an exit from corporate life.

3) We created a tax plan for them, showing them how they could pay less in taxes over time.

“Allison” works for a small tech company, but they are still publicly traded. She wants to keep working at her job and company, which she loves, but wanted to make sure she was making smart financial moves so she could be truly financially free.

Three ways we helped “Allison”:

1)We helped her understand how heavily concentrated she was in her employer’s stock and the downfall that could lead to if the stock price tumbled. We showed her how to tax-efficiently reduce and exit the position. Spoiler alert: it later did.

2) We helped her make the most of her corporate benefits.

3) We showed her the opportunity costs of waiting to invest or not investing at all. We made her an investment plan that fit her situation and risk appetite.

Areas of Focus: Retirement Planning, Equity Compensation, RSUs, Tax Planning, Group Benefits.

“Megan” works for a large tech firm (a “magnificent seven” stock company) and while things are good, she knows layoffs can happen at any time and dreams of a day when she’s not beholden to the internal politics, stack rankings, and performance evals. She might do some consulting, but maybe not, maybe just teach yoga instead.

Three ways we helped “Megan”:

1) We asked what was holding her back from moving closer to family, and encouraged her to ask for permission to move offices. She now lives closer to her family.

2) We showed her how the math works when it comes to being work optional.

3) We created a plan for her to take full advantage of her big tech retirement plan and RSU awards now and how she can set up something similar for herself later.

Areas of Focus: Retirement Planning, Cash Flow Planning, Tax Planning, Equity Compensation, Goals Realization, Make Work Optional.

Allison is a huge Swiftie so we felt it was appropriate to make this the picture for her story.

“Morticia and Gomez Adams” live in a high-cost-of-living area in the Northeast US. They were late to start saving for retirement and “Gomez” was completely burned out. They want to balance saving for retirement while caring for older family members and giving their children the very best they can.

Three ways we helped “The Adams Family”:

1) We showed “Gomez” what would need to happen for him to be work optional.

2) We showed where the gaps were in Life & Disability insurance coverage and helped them evaluate policies. When “Morticia” had a big health scare, the only thing she had to focus on was her health.

3) We created a plan to allow “Morticia” to defer a large amount each year into a retirement plan, despite her being the only employee at her company. This allowed her to save more on a tax-deferred basis than had she simply contributed to an IRA.

Areas of Focus: Retirement Planning, Tax Planning, Cash Flow Planning, Estate Planning, International/Dual Citizenship Considerations, Make Work Optional.
